How Did We Get Here?

This trip ended up quite a bit different from where we started. When we returned last year we had pretty much decided this year was going to be a flight to the west. After debating several far-east itineraries we started looking into a Thailand, Cambodia trip and found there was a lot we liked. However since July is the beginning of the rainy season in these countries we decided to postpone that trip to when we can travel at a drier time of the year there.

So back to the east. We enjoyed last years trip very much so another island trip? The Canary Islands quickly rose to the top and based on a look at the map a Portugal/Canary Islands trip was the decision. Yeah! However relative geographic location does not mean ease of travel and when we found how many hoops (or flight legs) we would have to jump thru that itinerary ended. The Canary Islands were favored (islands), travel from mother Spain was the easiest so we adjusted part of the trip. I do not like to repeat countries too quickly but we did enjoy our visits to Spain in 2012 & 2009 so maybe a mix of past trips and new? Done.

Those final decisions helped us with the name of the blog. The fun on the past trips made us think of  ‘Hair of the Dog’ or curing past indulgences with more of the same. When I remembered that the Canary Islands in Latin were Islas Canarias, or “Islands of the Dogs” we had a winner. Yes the birds are from the islands but they are named after the islands not the other way around. The title seemed too plain… In Spanish maybe? So “Pelo Del Perro“, literally ‘Hair of the Dog’ in Spanish was decided on. This blog naming caused less blood letting than last year!
